New Application for AUSIT Membership

Procedure

Please choose the appropriate membership level below. Remember to save your application so you can return to it later, in case you do not have all your documents ready right at the start. Once you submit your application, it will be reviewed by the local branch who may contact you if there are any questions.

Full Membership

Must have relevant qualifications and experience in translating and/or interpreting, such as NAATI accreditation or recognition, tertiary qualifications from a state/government institution in Australia or overseas, or other qualifications and experience deemed acceptable by the Institute.

Associate Membership

Any individual, institution or association that has an interest in the profession of interpreting and translation and is not eligible for membership in any other category may be eligible to join as an Associate. Any practitioner who does not wish to seek membership in any other category may also choose to join in this category, but will not be entitled to certain Member benefits (e.g. published directory listing, voting rights, standing for office, permission to display AUSIT membership on stationery and marketing materials, etc.)

Student Membership

Students preparing for or interested in the translating and interpreting profession can join AUSIT under a special "student" sub-category within the Associate member category. Persons applying to be Associates, and who can demonstrate that they are students, can join this category. Students are required to apply for full membership on completing their studies and obtaining qualifications).

Payment

AUSIT membership fees are due on 1 July of every year. Your first membership fee will therefore be pro-rated to expire on 30 June of the calendar year which follows the year in which your membership has been approved. In other words, the following payments will be due: (includes the $20 application fee and GST)
